Pancake Day

“The fattest, fluffiest and most photogenic pancakes in town” so say The Telegraph

From sugar-sprinkled crêpes to syrup-drenched pancakes, some would argue there is no better day in the year to enjoy a particularly indulgent breakfast than the seventh Tuesday before Easter – or in other words, Shrove Tuesday – better known by most as Pancake Day.

This year, Pancake Day falls on Tuesday 25th February and whether it signals the start of your 40-days of abstinence for Lent or is simply an excuse to sidestep your usual breakfast order, London is teeming with restaurants serving this traditionally humble dish in all of its many, modern guises.

The Wolseley of course is no exception – and yet at what is often referred to as a ‘breakfast institution’ (there is even a book named after this most talked about service), pancakes aren’t just reserved for their Shrove Tuesday spotlight. Far from it… The Wolseley’s pancakes prove a perennially popular breakfast favourite no matter the time of year.

Stacked high and served American-style with bacon or topped with seasonal berries and a dusting of icing sugar, as The Telegraph declares in their list of ‘The best restaurants to celebrate Shrove Tuesday 2019’, “Mayfair mornings don’t get much better”. Stylist’s article of ‘London’s best brunch spots to celebrate Pancake Day with your friends’, notes how The Wolseley “knows how to serve up a mean stack” and Sheerluxe’s ‘Where To Get Your Pancake Fix’ round-up this month deemed The Wolseley’s pancakes “almost too good looking to eat… but we guarantee you won’t be able to resist.”

And for those who prefer the less fluffy variety, The Wolseley will also be offering buttered crêpes served hot with either Lemon & Sugar or a Nutella & Chocolate sauce, for all those in the restaurant on Pancake Day itself – whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner… or anytime in-between.
